Registering
In order to use our platform to sell wine, you need to create a member account and register as a Collector.
Posting wine
Log in to your account, using your username and password. You will be taken to the Marketplace.
Choose New Sale / Auction from the Marketplace Menu and fill in information about your wine, or upload your inventory to My Cellar and post your wine from there to the marketplace, after obtaining the current retail price of the wine.
The difference between a Sale and an Auction is that in a Sale, the seller is offering the wine at a fixed price, called the BuyItNow price, while in an Auction, the seller is offering the wine through a bidding process, by specifying a starting price and a time-frame within which he/she will accept bids at or greater than the starting price.
The current fees for posting wine on our website are:
Indivdual posts: $3 / Individual re-posts: $1
Bulk posts (2 to 100 bottles): $6 / Bulk re-posts (2 to 100 bottles): $4
Bulk posts (101 to 300 bottles): $11 / Bulk re-posts (101 to 300 bottles): $7
Bulk posts (301 to 500 bottles): $18 / Bulk re-posts (301 to 500 bottles): $10
Bulk posts (more than 501 bottles): $25 / Bulk re-posts (more than 501 bottles): $14
Once you submit your post, the system will send you a link to PayPal, through which you can pay the posting fee to Wine Societies. Once the payment is complete, your posting will go live. It will appear in the Sales / Auctions page, and will be visible to all members.
How your wine is promoted
New posts (up to the first ten per day) are immediately tweeted to our Twitter followers and posted to our Facebook Wall for our Facebook friends. In addition, we tweet and wall-post a summary of our entire marketplace inventory daily. Both our Twitter followers and Facebook friends are growing in number every day.
Buyers can subscribe to our marketplace alert emails. Email alerts can be customized based on wine type and price range, and can be sent instantly upon a posting going live, daily, or weekly.
We periodically advertise the current Marketplace inventory on Wine-Searcher.
Our site is optimized to rank highly in Google search for relevant search terms.
Receiving offers
Whenever a buyer makes an offer on your wine, you will receive an email message from our system, notifying you of the offer. Log in to your account to view the offer.
For an Auction format offering, offers (or bids) can be made by buyers till the auction closes. For a BuyItNow format offering, once a buyer’s offer has met the BuyItNow price, the sale is considered immediately closed. The seller is obligated to sell the wine to the buyer at the BuyItNow price.
A posting cannot be withdrawn by the seller if a bid that meets the minimum price has been placed by a buyer.
Messaging
Although buyers and sellers are known to each other only through their usernames till the successful completion of a sale, they can still communicate with each other anonymously using the Messages box, available in each posting, during the process. Buyers may have specific questions for sellers before making an offer. Sellers can respond to buyers through the Messages box.
In order to post a message, simply enter it in the Messages box and click on Send Message. The message will appear in the posting, and the buyer will be notified.
Completing a sale
Once the Auction or Fixed Price Sale is completed, the seller will be sent an email from our system, with information about the winning buyer’s name and contact information. Your (seller’s) name and contact information will be sent to the buyer as well.
The seller and buyer can now contact each other directly, to arrange for the exchange of monies and the wine.
Shipping & Payment
Licensed buyers will typically send the seller a shipping label. Sellers can use this label to ship the wine to the buyer using carriers such as FedEx or UPS.
Buyers pay the seller directly, according to the terms and method of payment agreed upon between the buyer and seller.
Member Satisfaction Survey
Upon the successful completion of a sale, you will have the opportunity to rate the process. You will find the link to do so in an email you receive from the system.
